    Ambitious plan!
Lethargy might mean it doesn’t happen, but if you do go ahead, I would be interested in a UK one.
Why not decide on some tentative dates, countries and costs, and then recruit Badminton Life members in those countries to help seek out venues and promote the events? If the Badminton Life members can [...]

That's great Mat: there is nothing like actually trying a few rackets yourself so you can see which one best suits your style.
If you are having problems with 'feeling' the net shots, I would try a different string in your racket – changing to a string with better feel could make all the difference.

I am a very agressive player and smash a lot, but I generate the power with a very fast swing, so I am using a balanced racket that is a little bit heavier than the light ones. I think getting the right balance and flex are probably more important than just buying a heavier racket [...]

First thing to do is analyse what type of player you are: if you are mainly a men's doubles player who speciaises in fast flat rallies and an impeneterable defence, you might find a light racket better suits you. If you are physically strong, and rely on a power game, you might find a heavier [...]

  • Mel Wyatt commented on the blog post Thomas Cup 2010: Lin Dan vs Taufik Hidayat

I agree with you: I think Taufik is too old to change his game to that extent.
I think it is going to be a while, but then some of the young pretenders will push the bar higher and make Lin Dan struggle.
Simon: don’t forget the ice bath, training on top of Mount Everest, in Death [...]

  • Mel Wyatt commented on the blog post Thomas Cup 2010: Lin Dan vs Taufik Hidayat

I think Lin Dan has got to the stage where he realises that he can beat anyone if he brings his ‘A’ game, and he is struggling with motivation.
He is very patriotic, and that was enough to make him play the way he can in the Thomas cup. Will be interesting to see if [...]

  • Mel Wyatt commented on the blog post Thomas Cup 2010: Lin Dan vs Taufik Hidayat

This Lin Dan was a diffent guy ro the one who played in the All-England: this Lin Dan looked focused and committed to the task in hand. The Lin Dan in Birmingham seemed distracted and dis-interested in badminton, and was getting annoyed with himself for making so many silly mistakes.
Against Taufik he was totally [...]

  • Mel Wyatt commented on the blog post Coaching – Every Player Should Do It!

I agree: you often do things without thinking, but having to explain to someone ‘how’ to actually perform the mechanics of a shot, or explain positional play, really makes you think about the whole process.
You start REALLY watching your players to understand why a particular shot isn’t working, or why they are getting caught, and [...]

Have not seen her: how good is she? What style of play? How long do you think before she really challenges in the senior ranks?

Do you mean Sung Ji Hyun?
Watched her play Zhoou Mi in the opening round of the All England: fantastic technique, but fell to Zhou Mi's fighting spirit and ran out of ideas.
It will be interesting to see if she can turn it on consistently as the big players learn her style and how to play [...]

  • Mel Wyatt commented on the blog post A Players Dilemma: To Stick With One Coach, or To Roam Free

    Definately!
As players, we respond to stimulus. How often have we been stuck in a rut, changed our practice routine, and re-kindled our desire for the game?
Changing your coach freshens things up, and exposes you to new ideas. Look at the change in the Japanese squad since the arrival of Park Joo Bong!
    It’s the [...]
